3rd Balkan Can Kino Film Symposium

The #3BCKFS | 3rd BCK Film Symposium – Online edition 2020, organised by Balkan Can Kino, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Athen, focuses on the Balkan area, culture and art scene, and presents online screenings, available free of admission at www.balkan-can-kino.com, from the 16th to the 25th of October 2020, curated by local and international film festival teams and invited guest curators (Athens Ethnographic Film Festival, Free Zone Human Rights Film Festival, Balkans Beyond Borders, Pugnant Film Series & Zehra Cerrahoğlu) as well as the Balkan Can Kino Team. Screenings will be followed by live streamed Q&As with the filmmakers, when possible.

Parallel Events

The #3BCKFS kicks-off on the 9th of October, with the photo exhibition “Balkans Today. The present of a wounded landscape”, that will pop-up in different locations in the neighbourhood of Exarchia, featuring 26 photographers from 12 countries, that both document the present and comment on the history of the wider Balkan region.

Between the 10th to the 18th of October, the two workshops “Young Critics” & “Young Curators” will take place. A series of online presentations and interactive meetings, between selected participants and guest-speakers invited by BCK: film curators and programmers and film critics, who are active in Greece and the Balkan area.

On the 15th of October the virtual roundtable “The F* Word – Creating a chain of emerging Female Filmmakers” will host 12 female film professionals and academics, from 7 countries from the wider Balkan region, who discuss the representation of gender – in front and behind the camera – in Balkan films. The audience will have the chance to watch 3 min. excerpts of their work, alongside a Q&A.
