Balkan Can Kino is a pop-up and mobile Film Festival, Symposium, and Lab, which was founded in 2017 by filmmakers in Athens and presents independent and guerrilla cinema, both internationally and locally produced, introducing new filmmakers, artistic communities and collectivities and highlighting the diversity of artistic expression.
The Film Festival operates in a hybrid format throughout the year, in collaboration with artistic and cultural spaces, groups and organisations in Athens, the rest of Greece and abroad, presenting a rich programme of films that come from an open call for films that takes place once or twice a year. In total, until today, 6000 films have been submitted, covering all genres and from all over the world.
FILM ENTRIES
Balkan Can Kino accepts films exclusively through the Filmfreeway platform. Open calls are announced once or twice a year on BCK’s official website and social networks.
The Film Symposium takes place in Athens every autumn and for about ten days, under a single theme, it presents curated film programmes by BCK members or by guest curators from independent and acclaimed film festivals, together with artistic installations, discussion panels and workshops. All Symposium activities are always free of charge to the public and are carried out in collaboration with artists, artistic and social groups and organisations.
